Embracing the Weirdness Within 👽 ✨
It's a tough job, but someone has to be weird 🛸
Oh hey! I’m Anira, an intergenerational cycle breaker. I have always been the odd one in my family. The one that thinks too much. The one that is too sensitive. The one that disrupts everything. No matter what I do.
I used to be so annoyed by this; but now, I feel so empowered by it. Let me tell you why.
First, I want to talk about being different, because it is hard being weird.
In this economy.
It is hard being a true weirdo in a world that tries so fucking hard to label and box you up into convenient little structures. This starts at a very early age. When you’re told to colour IN the lines.
However,
I’ve always been the type to draw my own thing and colour it the way I want to.
I am a multifaceted being. I am the hermit, the romantic, the super passionate human that daydreams and researches incessantly about aliens, dragons, nature (specifically trees 🌳), fantasy realms, cats, tarot, the list goes on. And, I am a wild child at heart.
My inner child wants to play! To run up and hug trees. To walk barefoot in a lush meadow so I can feel the soft grass against my feet. I want to smile at strangers and ask people deep questions about life without fearing for my safety.
I love the idea of being messy and playful and being the odd one. I am courageous and a protector for all my fellow weirdos. I stand up against injustice, because I know what is is like to be made fun of or to be belittled.
Being weird is different. It feels rebellious to even write this piece!
But when you’re different, people make fun of you. They ridicule you. To make themselves feel better.
That is the risk for being authentic, and many of us learn that is is much safer to just swallow up the weirdness and develop extreme anxiety disorders that require heavy medication. Just to exist in the confines of “normalcy.”
But let me tell you a little secret:
Being weird or different is brave.
Staying true to yourself is the bravest forms of love you’ll ever offer your own heart.
It is what will help you accept yourself for who you truly are. When you embrace your weird, sensitive, authentic, and beautiful parts of yourself, you will SHINE.
And you won’t need medication. Eventually. It takes time, and it takes safety. Which is something that I intend to help everyone remember. But before I incite change in the world, I needed to create safety for myself first.
Creating safety for yourself starts with the root chakra. It always begins with the roots! Think ancestry, childhood, the root of a current problem. You have to be willing to be honest with yourself. Really honest.
The Earth wants to help you! That is why so many articles tell you to get into nature when you are feeling anxious. Trees are literally rooted in place within Earth. They help you root within yourself. They have so much wisdom to give by just existing. They are beautiful and kind souls 🌳 ✨
Anxiety = thoughts = air. When the mind spins, the body loses its anchor.
When you have too many thoughts or you live in your mind, you are not grounded within your body. The key is to seek presence.
Not perfection.
Presence.
Many of us who suffer from anxiety or depression feel it so deeply within our body. It is incredibly important to listen to your body and nurture these parts in the best ways that support you. This is different for everyone.
For me, I had to really nurture my throat and chest. I had ribs out of place - and had to get my chiropractor to help me with this because they kept getting misplaced in my back. When I am anxious, my breath gets quick and shallow. It is so unconscious at this point, so I have to be really intentional and retrain my body to breathe deeply.
[Fun fact:] I actually did a meditation practice in the summer that bruised my sternum because it was too long and too deep. I realized how sensitive my body is, and how I needed to develop a short, consistent practice first before I went into the depths of long meditations.
So, the first thing to do when you ground is to really feel where discomfort lies within your body. Which is really hard to do! Trust me, I know. I was in denial for a really long time.
When you start getting curious about it though, it literally changes EVERYTHING.
After you ground and create some safety for yourself, the next stage is acceptance.
Being weird or different from your family, culture, traditions, religion, society means that you are cycle breaking structures that don’t serve your highest good.
Not just for you, but for the world.
You being different / weird means you are literally helping the world be a more caring and empathetic space. When you create safety for this part of yourself, you will (in turn) create safety for the Earth and others around you.
The more love and safety you hold for yourself, the more you can give to others.
It is a fact.
Now, for my weirdness to shine!
Gaia (aka Earth) has been craving different, unique souls because she is a very special and unique planet!
Some of my weird and different theories include:
BLACKHOLE THEORY: we are in a black hole to upgrade (black holes / the void space can be seen as negative (literally - any void space can be seen as negative) - however, people need a perspective shift on the negative. The shadows, the darkness, the womb space, is infinite. It is so creative - it needs this space to understand the depths. Gaia is in her own ascension process and she is rebirthing as a higher frequency planet. Being in the rebirth process is being in the void state. Any person who is going through a spiritual awakening process understands this. It can also be seen in any identity shift in your life (some people call this a midlife crisis, I view it as a natural part of living). Change is the only constant!
UPGRADING CONSCIOUSNESS: I mean expanding consciousness. Right now, our body / mind / spirit are going through energetic upgrades. These upgrades are allowing us to access deeper understandings of the Universe. Right now, we have limited knowledge with science. I believe that we are moving towards more intuitive science. I think of Indigenous ways of knowing when I think of this - such as Braiding Sweetgrass and literal any oral story from Indigenous sources (I suggest starting local if you pursue this route). When one understands that we are interconnected (even to people / things we may have an aversion to) then you realize the power of reaction and perspective.
REWRITING HISTORY or should I say HERSTORY: Females have been written out of history for too long - funny that it is called history… isn’t it? Words have great meaning. That is why intention is important. That is why women’s intuition and ways of knowing should be highlighted and amplified right now. This is rising within society, and you can tell because there is major pushback. When women gain more power or more of a voice, you can see (historically and presently) that people push back. This doesn’t mean that there is an unequal balance. This means that we raise the feminine to the same height as masculinity. Change always threatens hierarchy - especially since the patriarchy survives on the pyramid structure of hierarchy. Gender / the balance between feminine and masculine is COMPLEX and SIMPLE. It is fluid. It is a paradox. We have the day (masculine), and we have the night (feminine), but we also have dawn, and dusk. There are liminal spaces in the day, there are liminal spaces within us. So there needs to be more acceptance with our fluid nature. PERIOD. [this speaks to all genders and people - all identities - and the need to balance in general]
STORYTELLING IS SCIENCE: I believe that stories are a way for us to share science in very simplistic ways. I think it is a disservice to society to separate science from story. Or beauty from science - like I said, in Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer, she talks about how beauty initially sparked her curiosity. One story that really resonated with me was about golden rods and asters. She talks about how the purple and golden plants amazed her from childhood. Their beauty fascinated her. Later in life, this sparked a curiosity within her. Why were they so beautiful and why did they grow together? Purple and yellow are complimentary colours (thanks art / aesthetic science!) and she discovered that these two colours attract more bees to them … which means more pollination. This is an example to show how interconnected stories truly are and how beauty / art can actually create beauty and evolution. You can’t have one without the other. That is why I find it so interesting that art and science are so separate in society. It is bullshit. You literally can’t have one without the other.
I have SO many more theories, but I think I will leave that for another day, for another article.
I share my weirdness, my origin story, and theories with you in order to promote more safety in my community.
I am developing a sense of safety within myself that is so unshakable. I rely on an outlet for my creativity and Substack has literally been mirroring my inner safety.
I thank all of my beautiful subscribers for being here and following my journey. Your non judgemental nature has literally helped me through so many hard times that I have been quiet about.
And I can’t be quiet any more!
I hold so much gratitude for all of you and I want my deeply sensitive soul to fly. People labelled this aspect of me as weird in the past, but I now reclaim it has my SUPER POWER. ✨
Please let me know if any of this resonated with you and tell me about your weird theories. I am sooooo here for all of them, for you! This is a nonjudgemental space and I love you all.
